Carlton Buckler, aka the Great Carlton
A fictional biography of a character from a Lovecraftian 1920s setting
Name: Carlton Buckler
Age: 42 (born 1880)
Personality: A ruthlessly ambitious and manipulative egomaniac
Occupation: Illusionist, spiritualist
Carlton Buckler was a talented illusionist who successfully led a traveling circus around New England. Then, the Great Depression struck. His circus utterly failed, and he found himself in debt up to his neck.
Desperate to find a way out of his misery, he became a con-artist and thief in Boston. He would have ended up cut to death in an alley or hanged by the law had he not caught the attention of something far darker than petty criminals.
He disappeared for months, only to come back clear of debt as a spiritualist, known as the Great Carlton. Seemingly capable of conferring with the dead, Carlton rose to fame among the rich people of Boston as the only true medium they could rely on to speak to their deceased loved ones. Carlton amassed wealth, respectability, and influence.
However, a darker side seems attached to the story of the bright and successful Carlton. One of his clients, Clarence Aldwell, took his own life after a private session with him. Moreover, many people in Boston have gone missing, and it is rumored that they were last seen around the Great Carlton's house.
Whoever decides to investigate the powerful spiritualist may find the secret behind Carlton's sudden success to be darker than anyone could imagine.
